What is an ISO Auditor Extension Course?

An ISO Auditor Extension Course is designed for certified ISO auditors who wish to expand their qualifications to include additional ISO standards. These courses build on an auditor’s existing knowledge and skills, allowing them to audit a broader range of management systems. Rather than starting from scratch, extension courses provide focused training on new standards, enabling auditors to extend the scope of their certifications efficiently.

What can you get from enrolling in an ISO extension course?

With conventional training, the only way to do this is by enrolling in a two-day internal auditor or five-day lead auditor training program.

However, for professionals with busy schedules or smaller organizations that have more limited budgets, this can be a challenge.

What are my ISO Extension Course Options?

You have two options:

• Courses for Internal Auditors – Courses typically of 7 hour-duration and,
• Courses For Lead Auditors – Courses are typically of 20 hour -duration.

Scope

Are the courses focused on the auditing process, implementation, or both?

The courses cover both the auditing process and implementation aspects. They are designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills in both areas, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to conduct audits as well as implement the necessary systems effectively.

How does it build upon my current ISO auditor certification?

Extension courses offer an efficient (previous training is not repeated) and inexpensive way to add other standards to existing certifications.

Is the training focused on theoretical knowledge, or does it include practical, hands-on auditing exercises?

Both are included in our courses. Module 3 of all regular courses is focused on the practical application of the knowledge and skills gained in Modules 1 and 2.

Are there any specific methodologies or frameworks taught that differ from my current auditing process?

Probably. Our courses are developed to be comprehensive, and lots of hints and tips have been added.

Does the course address how to manage audits for multiple standards simultaneously (e.g., conducting integrated audits for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001)?

Integrated audits are not recommended. Certifications Bodies always audit against standards individually,

Are the courses tailored to specific industries (e.g., manufacturing, healthcare, IT), or are they general enough to apply to a broad range of sectors?

Generally, no. The exceptions are ISO 13485 for the medical device sector and ISO 17025 for test and calibration laboratories.

What are the core topics and skills taught?

Delivery

How is the course delivered?

The format is the same for both grades: You begin with a pre-test, which is free of charge, to confirm your auditing skills.

Next, you will be given two modules of instruction. The first provides knowledge of the standard. The second lets you practice what you’ve learned with scenarios.

Finally, there’s an online certification Examination that you will need to complete. After you’ve passed this exam, your course certificate will be immediately available for printing. Moreover, you may print as many copies as you would like.

How easily can these additional ISO standards be integrated into my current auditing workflow?

Except for ISO 13485, all other ISO Management System Standards have the same basic structure (HLS – High-Level Structure) and can be easily integrated.

Do the courses provide case studies or examples relevant to industries where the new ISO standards are most commonly implemented?

Yes. Module 3 of the regular courses is devoted to this purpose.

Do the courses provide info on maintaining or renewing certification?

Our Certificates do not have Expiry Dates. You will only need a Conversion Course when a new/revised edition of a standard is published (typically every 5 or 10 years).

Career Prospects

Are there industries that highly demand these auditors?

Certification bodies will only consider employing those with Lead Auditor qualifications in the relevant standards. Otherwise, auditor qualifications can be applied to all types of organizations (the standards are written to be generally applicable)

How will additional ISO standards benefit my career as an auditor?

You will be able to audit against the requirements of additional standards.

What new job or consulting opportunities would open up after adding these ISO standards to my credentials?

You would have skills and knowledge of direct use to organizations certified to more than one standard.

Will these extension courses allow me to audit multiple standards in one organization, or would I still need separate audits for each standard?

A combined Audit Program and individual programs for each standard may be used.
